Biographies
Svetlana Mochalova started to play cello at the age of five studying with her mother Tatiana Tumaeva and Alexander Pokrovsky. The following year she joined a specialist music school in Voronezh, Russia. At the age of eight she started competing in national and international competitions and aged 11 made her debut with Voronezh Symphony Orchestra, followed by a performance of Saint-Saëns Cello Concerto in Voronezh Town Hall a year later. Regular performances with various orchestras in Russia and the UK have followed ever since.
In 2001 Svetlana received a full scholarship to study at The Purcell School, under Natalia Pavlutskaya. A scholarship to the Royal Northern College of Music saw her studying with Hannah Roberts from 2006, and Svetlana graduated with first class honours prior to completing a Master of Music in Solo Performance with distinction.
Svetlana participated in a number of festivals and summer courses among them: Piatigorsky International Cello Festival in Los Angeles, International Kronberg Academy Cello Masterclasses, London Masterclasses and Manchester International Cello Festival. She has taken part in masterclasses with Ralph Kirshbaum, Heinrich Schiff, Garry Hoffman, Lynn Harrell, Mstislav Rostropovich, Miklós Perényi, Raphael Wallfisch, Karine Georgian and Giovanni Sollima.
Svetlana was recently awarded the second prize at Bromsgrove Festival International Young Musicians’ Platform. She is a current member of Southbank Sinfonia, Ensemble Deva and Britten-Pears Young Artrist 2014.
Svetlana is extremely grateful for the support she has received during her studies at the RNCM and would like to thank the RNCM scholarship, The RPS Sir John Barbirolli Memorial Foundation, Philharmonia Orchestra Martin Musical Scholarship Fund, Leverhulme Trust, The Stephen Bell Charitable Trust Award and Musicians Benevolent Fund Postgraduate Performance Award.
Slava Sidorenko began his musical education at the age of five with Irina Bazarova (at the Primary Music School) in Kharkov, Ukraine and later with Victoria Lazovaya (at the Special Music School) and Igor Prihod'ko.
In 2003 he was awarded an Associated Board (ABRSM) scholarship to study with Norma Fisher at the Royal Northern College of Music where he won many major awards including (in his third year) the coveted RNCM Gold Medal and later with Deniz Gelenbe in London - participating also in masterclasses with Stephen Hough, Alexander Melnikov, Pierre-Laurent Aimard, Nelson Goerner, Richard Goode, amongst others.
His studies continued until 2010 on the first RNCM International Artist Diploma Course with the generous support of the Royal Northern College of Music, the Musicians Benevolent Fund’s MBF Music Education Award, the Philharmonia Orchestra Martin Musical Scholarship Fund, The Worshipful Company of Musicians and The Boise Foundation.
His numerous competition successes include first prize in the Luzenko International Piano Competition in Ukraine, Moray International Piano Competition in Scotland, Sevenoaks Young Musician of the Year, the Yamaha Music Foundation of Europe Scholarship and Jacques Samuel Intercollegiate Piano Competition. He was also a finalist in the Busoni International Piano Competition in 2007 and awarded the Silver Medal of The Worshipful Company of Musicians in 2008.
Slava has appeared as recital and concerto soloist in the Ukraine, Germany, Italy and many parts of the UK. He made his debut in 2009 at the Wigmore Hall, as winner of the Jacques Samuel Intercollegiate Piano Competition, (the CD “Live at Wigmore Hall” was released the following year), receiving glowing reviews and at the Bridgewater Hall, also with the Manchester Camerata.
He was recently appointed as RNCM Ambassador.

Svetlana Mochalova and Slava Sidorenko first met at the Royal Northern College of Music. A musical relationship blossomed into a personal relationship and the couple are now married. Between them, they’ve won multiple awards and performed at venues including the Purcell Room, the Barbican, Wigmore Hall and Glastonbury. As part of their mission to engage with audiences in a more imaginative way, they’ve developed their own Sveta & Slava app that allows concert goers to vote for the pieces the duo will perform. Their debut CD, ‘Rachmaninoff’, was released in January 2018.
